Overview

Our marrakech itinerary 14 days is a fully private, tailor-made itinerary covering Merzouga & Erg Chebbi Dunes, Ait Ben Haddou, Chefchaouen, Todra Gorge and Fes. You'll travel in a comfortable private vehicle with your own English-speaking driver-guide, sleep in hand-picked riads and hotels, and spend a night under the stars in a Sahara desert camp. Every detail — pace, stops, room upgrades — can be adjusted to fit the way you like to travel.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

  1. 01

    Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou

Depart Marrakech this morning. Cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m), winding through Berber villages, walnut groves and switchback roads with sweeping mountain views. Visit the UNESCO-listed fortified village (ksar) of Ait Ben Haddou, its earthen kasbahs rising from the valley floor, familiar from Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

  2. 02

    Ouarzazate

Pass through Ouarzazate, Morocco's 'door of the desert' and home to the Atlas Film Studios, with a stop at the Taourirt Kasbah.

  3. 03

    Dades Valley

Drive through the Dades Valley, past rose gardens and rock formations locally called the 'monkey fingers', into the folded red cliffs of the Dades Gorges.

  4. 04

    Todra Gorge

Walk beneath the 300-metre limestone walls of the Todra Gorge, one of the most dramatic canyons in the Atlas, carved by the Todra River.

  5. 05

    Merzouga & Erg Chebbi Dunes

Reach Merzouga on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Ride camels into the Sahara for sunset and spend the night in a desert camp under an open sky of stars.

  6. 06

    Erfoud & Fossil Country

Pass through Erfoud, centre of Morocco's fossil trade, on the edge of the Tafilalt palm oasis before the final approach to the dunes.

  7. 07

Zagora & Draa Valley to Ouzoud Waterfalls

Leave Zagora & Draa Valley and continue toward Ouzoud Waterfalls. Visit the Ouzoud Waterfalls, cascading 110 metres in tiers over red rock, with resident Barbary macaques along the trail.

  8. 08

    Fes

Wander Fes el Bali, the largest car-free urban area in the world: tanneries, madrasas, copper souks and a medina that has barely changed since the 9th century.

  9. 09

    Meknes

Visit Meknes, the former imperial capital of Sultan Moulay Ismail, with its monumental Bab Mansour gate and vast royal stables.

  10. 10

    Volubilis

Explore the well-preserved Roman ruins of Volubilis, once the capital of the Roman province of Mauretania, famous for its mosaics and standing columns.

  11. 11

    Chefchaouen to Rabat

Leave Chefchaouen and continue toward Rabat. Tour Morocco's capital, Rabat: the Hassan Tower, Mohammed V Mausoleum, and the Kasbah of the Udayas overlooking the Atlantic.

  12. 12

    Casablanca

See Casablanca's Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest in the world with a minaret over 200 metres tall, and the seafront Corniche.

  13. 13

    Essaouira

Relax in Essaouira, a windswept Atlantic port city of blue-and-white alleys, 18th-century ramparts and fresh seafood grills on the port.

  14. 14

    Marrakech

Drive back to Marrakech, marking the end of your tour. Transfer to your riad or straight to the airport, depending on your onward plans.
