The best Morocco trip is the one that fits your dates, your pace and the way you like to travel. Morocco rewards a little planning: the distances between the desert, the mountains and the imperial cities are bigger than most people expect, and the right route saves you hours on the road. Here is how our travellers usually decide.
How many days do you need in Morocco?
Three to four days is enough for a taste of the Sahara, usually a round trip from Marrakech to the Merzouga dunes or a one-way crossing to Fes. A week is the sweet spot for most visitors, with time for the Atlas Mountains, the desert and a coastal or city stop. If you want the imperial cities of Fes and Meknes, Chefchaouen and Casablanca on top of the south, plan on ten to fourteen days so you are not driving every day.
When is the best time to visit Morocco?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons for most itineraries: warm days, comfortable desert nights and clear mountain views. Summer is hot in Marrakech and very hot in the Sahara, so we usually shorten the desert stay or favour the coast and the mountains. Winter is quiet and good for the cities and the coast, with cold nights in the dunes. The dates of Ramadan change every year, and we are happy to plan around them.

Morocco welcomes millions of visitors every year and the main tourist areas are generally considered safe. As anywhere, normal travel precautions apply, and your driver-guide is there to help. Check your own government's travel advice before you book.
Do I need a visa for Morocco?
Citizens of many countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and most of Europe, can visit Morocco without a visa for up to 90 days. Rules can change, so confirm the current requirements for your passport before you travel.
