Day-by-Day Itinerary

   Casablanca to Rabat

   Depart Casablanca this morning. Tour Morocco's capital, Rabat: the Hassan Tower, Mohammed V Mausoleum, and the Kasbah of the Udayas overlooking the Atlantic.

   Meknes

   Visit Meknes, the former imperial capital of Sultan Moulay Ismail, with its monumental Bab Mansour gate and vast royal stables.

   Volubilis

   Explore the well-preserved Roman ruins of Volubilis, once the capital of the Roman province of Mauretania, famous for its mosaics and standing columns.

   Fes

   Wander Fes el Bali, the largest car-free urban area in the world: tanneries, madrasas, copper souks and a medina that has barely changed since the 9th century.

   Ifrane & Middle Atlas

   Pass through Ifrane, Morocco's alpine-style 'Switzerland', and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, home to troops of Barbary macaques.

   Midelt

   Cross the Middle Atlas via Midelt, a quiet apple-growing town between the cedar forests and the start of the high desert plateau.

   Erfoud & Fossil Country

   Pass through Erfoud, centre of Morocco's fossil trade, on the edge of the Tafilalt palm oasis before the final approach to the dunes.

   Merzouga & Erg Chebbi Dunes

   Reach Merzouga on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Ride camels into the Sahara for sunset and spend the night in a desert camp under an open sky of stars.

   Todra Gorge

   Walk beneath the 300-metre limestone walls of the Todra Gorge, one of the most dramatic canyons in the Atlas, carved by the Todra River.

    Dades Valley

    Drive through the Dades Valley, past rose gardens and rock formations locally called the 'monkey fingers', into the folded red cliffs of the Dades Gorges.

    Ait Ben Haddou

    Visit the UNESCO-listed fortified village (ksar) of Ait Ben Haddou, its earthen kasbahs rising from the valley floor, familiar from Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

    Ouarzazate

    Pass through Ouarzazate, Morocco's 'door of the desert' and home to the Atlas Film Studios, with a stop at the Taourirt Kasbah.

    Marrakech

    Explore the red-walled Medina: the winding alleys of the souks, the Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace and the theatre of Jemaa el-Fna square as the food stalls and storytellers set up for the evening.

14. 14

    Essaouira

    Relax in Essaouira, a windswept Atlantic port city of blue-and-white alleys, 18th-century ramparts and fresh seafood grills on the port.

15. 15

    Casablanca

    Drive back to Casablanca, marking the end of your tour. Transfer to your riad or straight to the airport, depending on your onward plans.
